FORBIDDEN FRUIT

FORBIDDEN FRUIT by Kerry Greenwood

Forbidden Fruit is another book in the Corinna Chapman series by Kerry Greenwood.

Once again, the focus is on food and mystery, not necessarily in that order! Greenwood’s books are half mystery and half menu. When the inhabitants of the inner-city apartment house are not sitting on the roof sipping gin and tonics and eating, they are down in the basement sipping wine and eating!

“Corinna Chapman, owner of Earthly Delights, detests Christmas. The shoppers are frantic and the heat is oppressive. Neither of which this perfect size 20 with a genius for baking breads find congenial. She’s dreaming of quiet, air-conditioned comfort but instead find herself dealing with a rose-loving donkey named Serena, a maniacal mother with staring eyes, a distracted assistant searching for the perfect glace cherry recipe, her friend the witch Meroe, and the luscious Daniel with whom she’d like to spend a lot more time.”

If all that weren’t enough, Corinna must also face a troupe of free-spirited Freegans, three very clever internet hackers and a bunch of Vegans, nice or nasty, a sinister religious cult and a band of Romany gypsies.

All this, summer heat and Melbourne too at Christmas. Oh yes, and two runaways, one a 16 year old heavily pregnant girl.

Is Corinna up for the challenge of Christmas shopping, rescuing strays and sorting out the Vegans? Yes, with the help of Daniel and that weird assortment of fellow residents of Insula, you can bet she is.
